Brazilian jiu jitsu is a martial art built on technique, control, and patience, where leverage matters more than strength. In Bahia de Caraquez, jiu jitsu is starting to grow into something bigger than just a sport, becoming part of a rising martial arts culture in Manabí.
Behind that growth is Team Mutante, led by Marcos Cuesta and Juan Marcos Cisneros.
With two academies, one for adults and one for kids, the team is creating a space where people do not just train, but develop discipline, confidence, and consistency through Brazilian jiu jitsu in Ecuador.
Adult Jiu Jitsu Classes in Bahia de Caraquez
The adult program is led by Marcos Cuesta, who brings over 10 years of experience across different martial arts. His classes focus not only on technique, but also on mindset, teaching students how to stay calm under pressure and keep showing up.
For those looking for jiu jitsu classes in town, training takes place at Bahía’s Gym every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM. The team also offers no gi jiu jitsu classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 PM, giving students a more dynamic style of training.
For many, it becomes more than just exercise. It becomes a space to reset, push limits, and grow.
Jiu Jitsu for kids
The kids program has its own story. It is led by Juan Marcos Cisneros, who started training at 16 years old under Marcos Cuesta. Three years ago, he created a dedicated space for kids to begin their journey in jiu jitsu.
Kids classes are held Monday through Thursday starting at 3:00 PM at Plaza Deportiva, right at the beginning of the malecón, making it accessible and active for the community.
There, kids learn more than self defense. They build discipline, respect, and confidence from an early age through martial arts.
Jiu Jitsu Competitions in Bahia de Caraquez and Manabi
Team Mutante is not only growing locally. The team has already represented Ecuador internationally, competing in countries like Colombia and Brazil, bringing back experience and raising the level of jiu jitsu in Ecuador.
At the same time, the city is becoming a competition hub. Last year, it hosted the first edition of The King of Jiu Jitsu, bringing together athletes from different teams. This year, the event expanded to Manta, reaching more than 300 competitors across both editions and helping position Manabí as a growing destination for jiu jitsu competitions in Ecuador.
This is not just a team. It is a family built on discipline, consistency, and growth. And in Bahía de Caráquez, that growth is only getting started.
