Boardwalk Eats and Daily Life
Cevi Express, the ceviche pop-up stand, sets up every other Sunday and on holidays. If there’s a special event in town, you’ll likely find their stand open, too. I enjoy ceviche but don’t eat it often—maybe once a month. But theirs is so good, I could easily have it two or three times a week.

What makes it different? Traditional ceviche is usually soupy, but theirs is prepared almost like a topping. They slice open a bag of plantain chips and pile on the fresh ceviche ingredients—I always go for the fish and shrimp mix—with just a bit of the citrusy juice to flavor everything. A full bag is only $3.50.

You can eat it right there at the stand or, my preference, cross the street to the malecón and enjoy it with a view of the Río Chone.

After finishing the ceviche, I like to walk to the end of the malecón where the mango and coconut stands are. There, I grab a giant coconut for $1.50—and I never forget to take the tender coconut meat home. I’ll either snack on it later or use it to cook an encocado with shrimp.
All in all, not a bad way to spend a Sunday.
