Bahía de Caráquez Market: Clothes, Cones, and Coke Floats

Bahía de Caráquez

Monday Market Day in Bahía de Caráquez is a nice little thing. The street in front of the market gets closed off, and a bunch of stalls set up with clothes and shoes. It’s mostly stuff from the States that didn’t sell up there—good deals, and you can haggle a bit. They’ve got name-brand stuff and university gear too. I usually go once a month and pick up some t-shirts or shorts. Last time, I found some dry-fit shirts, three for $10, which work great for the gym or just hanging out.

Half the fun is digging through the t-shirts to see what turns up. You never know what you’ll find—sometimes there’s a real diamond in the rough. 🤣🤣🤣

After shopping, I grab some of Richard Sodas homemade ice cream. A cone’s only $1, and it’s been the same flavor for 50 years—I still don’t know what it is, but it’s good. If I’m in the mood for more, I’ll get the float with ice cream and Coke. It’s a simple treat that hits the spot.

A rare chance to stop working for someone else. Live in one place and rent out the other five.
